Tailings reclamation, extraction and beneficiation of minerals, as well as transformation of tailings into a mineralogically homogeneous state, including in the form of quartzites and other chemically inactive components.
One of the focal points receiving special attention is the reprocessing of valuable minerals and the rehabilitation of exhausted and closed tailing ponds of mining enterprises dating back to the Soviet era in Armenia. These ponds currently pose a significant threat to ecosystem functionality and human livelihoods.
The primary danger posed by these tailings is due to their elevated levels of lead, chromium, magnesium, cadmium, bismuth, arsenic, sulfur, zinc, molybdenum, and others. These metals form compounds with various other elements, and these new compounds uncontrollably (during spring floods and snowmelt in the mountains) enter mountain rivers and underground water sources.
